Backgrund[edit]
Hans Island (knawn as Tartupaluk i Greenlandic) is i the middle o the Kennedy Channel atween Greenland an Ellesmere Island. Hans Island is approximately 1.3 km2 i size an is barren. Hans Island isn't inhabited, though, through the 19th century, it wes used biv indigenous Inuit populations i the area.[3] Yit, it mun be noted that the Canadian Inuit population didn't use the area as mickle as the Greenlandic indigenous populations. The Canadian claim te the island arose frae the 1880 purchase o Hudson's Bay Company land te Canadian Government territory. The Danish argument wes that Hans Island wes vital te their indigenous populations for fishin, creatin an integral pairt o the nearby Greenlandic area.[4]
