From Incubator Plus 2.0

Announcement?

Is there still something that needs to be done or can I put an announcement on Wikia Incubator? --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 08:06, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

@OWTB: I still want to talk to Robin about the Incubator extension first. I think you could make a preliminary announcement that this is coming down the road if you want. But I don't think we're quite ready to start moving things here yet. StevenJ81 (talk) 16:31, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
Then I'll wait. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 15:23, 7 August 2018 (UTC)
@OWTB:
  • I created a logo, as you see. I don't have the means of making the outside portion transparent. Do you? Also, we might have to get permission from WMF on trademark (not copyright) grounds.
  • If I don't hear back from Robin by the weekend, I think I'll go ahead and have them install the Incubator extension. But I think we should do some test work first before we start importing tests here. I'd like to see how certain things work: what gets set up by default and what not, see what editing looks like from a non-admin account, and so forth. Sound OK? StevenJ81 (talk) 15:41, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
  • Also ... I imported a couple of work pages from Wikia: See Main Page/draft/Incubator Plus:Main Page and Template:Wikiatests, which are essentially the front page of the current Incubator Plus. I don't know if we want these to be (substantially) our front page or not. But I figure that they can help you organize the imports when you start doing them.
    • I organized them by current (self-reported) status, figuring that projects marked as "active" were likely to be imported here before projects marked as "off".
    • I did update two columns in particular: "Code source", and "Why rejected". I note that a bunch of these "invented" codes actually belong to other languages according to ISO 639; do we want to change them, or do we not care (as long as they're used only here)? StevenJ81 (talk) 18:47, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
  • Unfortunately, my photoshop skills are limited to Paint, so that's not something I can arrange for you. Asking permission would be a good idea, we don't want Miraheze getting in trouble.
  • Yes, sure :)
  • The main page should be transparant and clear; the main page on wikia was basically filling. I propose to keep the test list separate from the main page.
    • I think the activity column is pretty useless, so we might consider deleting it eventually. For now, we can indeed focus on those tests first.
    • That depends on what the Incubator extension is going to do if the codes are already assigned. I think it would be best to require a code consisting of at least 4 characters (letters), unless for respellings maybe (such as phonetic English f.e.).

I made an announcement at Wikia: [1] --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 08:23, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Logo SVG

Hello, seeing as you're using a PNG logo instead of an SVG. I took the liberty of modifying the logo file to have 135px 135px. As I have no permissions, I have uploaded it to this wiki waiting for you to download it and upload it here. When you upload it and change the wiki logo. I will delete the file from my wiki --Wiki1776 (talk) 21:07, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Thank you! I upload your version here :) --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 08:22, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Import

What is the prefix to be used on special:Import with "Import as subpages of the following page"? I intend to move an unprefixed Wikia to here. Would I use "Wp/aeres" or "Wp/aeres/" in that case? --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 14:49, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

I think use "Wp/aeres". [But ... while I was told that the Incubator extension was installed here, I do not see any evidence of it (e.g., choice of tests in Preferences, presence of test-administrator in rights groups, etc.). Let me look into this.] StevenJ81 (talk) 15:14, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

Dari test Wikipedia

Please add Dari test Wikipedia to Mirahese list. --Agusbou2015 (talk) 23:53, 29 August 2018 (UTC)

We're not quite open for business here yet. But we appreciate your interest, and can move you as soon as we are. Meanwhile, you weren't on our initial list because the main page of Incubator Plus describes the test as "off". I am happy to fix that (tomorrow, my time). StevenJ81 (talk) 03:52, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

Codes

Have you already found a way to circumvent the codes? As of yet, it is still impossible to add tests without a valid ISO-code. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 09:48, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

Already figured out that adding it to Template:Test wiki/validcode seems to solve this. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 10:49, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

I found out that Special:MyMainPage, Special:RandomByTest etc. seem to be working now when the test code is inserted in the preferences. So, to me that sounds look a good to import. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 11:04, 21 November 2018 (UTC)

@Ooswesthoesbes I'm finally prepared to get back on this. I'll start in on it next week. Concerning what you wrote above:
  • You can add a test with any three-letter code, whether it is valid or not, as far as I can tell.
  • I'm not sure about two-letter codes.
  • I don't think you can add a test of any other sort. But I probably haven't tried to add one whose code appears in Template:Test wiki/validcode. If you say that solves the problem, fine. But have you tried non-three-letter codes (like, say, fr-simple or pt-br)? StevenJ81 (talk) 16:06, 30 November 2018 (UTC)
  • I checked it with Wp/lim-a and everything seems to working fine as long as the code is made valid on the template (which I did for "lim-a"). Without adding it, "lim-a" didn't work, so I think it's safe to assume "fr-simple" etc. won't work either.
  • Two-letter codes I haven't been able to check yet. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 09:28, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

A question

When will this wiki be open for business? --Agusbou2015 (talk) 13:47, 12 December 2018 (UTC)

@Agusbou2015 Probably in the next few days. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:23, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

A question

Is a Rosarigasino (a Spanish-based language game with no ISO code or IETF subtag) encyclopedia project allowed on Incubator Plus? --Agusbou2015 (talk) 21:32, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

If it's a language, OK. If it's a game ... what sort of project do you intend to create on that game? StevenJ81 (talk) 15:13, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
I want to create an encyclopedia project written in Rosarigasino. --Agusbou2015 (talk) 00:12, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
@Agusbou2015: I see, now: language game is a term of art, which I now understand. Sure, there's no reason you can't create a project in Rosarigasino. Shall we langcode it as es-x-gas? (I need to code it as something in order to make it a usable test here.) StevenJ81 (talk) 15:47, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
Yes, I accept the language code. --Agusbou2015 (talk) 15:24, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Move

As the notice was already placed in August, it was more than enough time for objections. Shall I initiate some moving? --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 09:31, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

@Ooswesthoesbes Absolutely. StevenJ81 (talk) 23:10, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
Alright, I'll start doing some things as soon as I got enough time :) --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 09:42, 23 February 2019 (UTC)
This might be a little bit more problematic than I thought. As the wiki moved to fandom.com, I seem to be unable to login... I wanted to request an updated database dump, but you need to be a logged-in administrator to do that. I'll look into that. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 11:37, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
I was able to login now, so it should be going alright now :) --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 09:50, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
Excellent! Good luck! I'll start working to create a real Community Portal and all that stuff. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:48, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
Just to make sure, I guess I'll have to change the xml dump to reflect that Wiktionaries are prefixed "Wt/" instead of "Wikt/", right? --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 09:36, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
Right. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:27, 15 April 2019 (UTC)

The import has finally been done. Time is a problem to me currently, as there are other priorities, but I'll see what I can do :) --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 11:05, 6 August 2019 (UTC)

Another question

In case Montenegrin Wikipedia is rejected by Wikimedia Foundation's Language Committee, despite having an ISO language code since December 2017 (cnr), will an encyclopedia project in Montenegrin language be allowed on Incubator Plus? --Agusbou2015 (talk) 21:28, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

Sure, keep us updated, and in case it is rejected, we can always import the contents to here. The main advantage here is that you can use images uploaded on Wikimedia Commons, and you've got the same functions and interface :) --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 11:23, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
That said, I am happy to fight to let it stay in Wikimedia Incubator, too. It absolutely meets the less restrictive rules for WM Incubator. StevenJ81 (talk) 21:52, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
